Legacy
Somewhere beyond the wall, a rooster crowed. The breeze played gently with the leaves of a palm tree ahead. A giant jackfruit still hung from that one tree, as if defying gravity. My baby was in his carrier and my toddler trotted along beside me, as we went for our morning walk. I was hit by the thought “this is all I’ve ever wanted” ….a family, a ministry, living overseas. But instead of focusing on that, too often my thoughts were negative. It’s so hot, I’m tired, all I can do is wipe noses and bottoms and have no time to do anything “important.” Conviction stabbed me deeply. I am always thankful for opportunities to serve God and others, but right now, home is my most important ministry. Sometimes I feel internal or external pressure to think otherwise, but nevertheless, there it is. God has given me these two precious boys to care for and shape for eternity. The moments I have for “important” work seem few and far between, but perhaps those things really are the bonus material. As I teach the Bible songs and stories, I am reminiscent of my own mother, and her consuming desire to see her daughters knowing and loving the Lord personally. May I, too, leave such a legacy, for what could be more important than that?
